Secret Desires AI

Secret Desires AI is two products wearing one name. The first is the best-value feature bundle in my ranking: for $7.99 a month you get unlimited uncensored chat, image generation at three cents a picture, voice notes, real-time voice calls and short video, from a company that names its Delaware and Malta entities on every page and publishes more infrastructure detail than anyone else in the category. The second is the company that, in November 2025, was found by 404 Media to have left roughly 1.8 million images and videos, including tens of thousands of real women’s photos uploaded to a face-swap feature, sitting in publicly readable Azure storage, said nothing, and then four months later put up a Trust Hub headlined “Your intimate data deserves better.”

Both of those are true, and a review that only tells you one of them is an advert or a hit piece. My original review listed every price as “Unverified”, said there was no voice and no video, claimed the descriptor was “Playhouse Media LLC”, and invented partial refunds. All of that is corrected below.

TL;DR verdict

Secret Desires AI earns its 7.6 on the arithmetic. No other app gives you chat, images, voice calls, voice cloning and video under one $7.99 plan, and the Hearts meter, while annoying, is cheap where it counts: standard chat is unmetered and Monet-engine images cost about three cents. The character creator is deep, the memory system is real if not Nomi-grade, and the company is unusually transparent about who it is.

It loses points for execution and for trust. Voice, the headline feature, is the part every tester complains about. Image consistency wobbles. Video is expensive and half-baked. And the company’s privacy story has a hole in it that its own documents can’t paper over: a live privacy policy from 2024 that permits training on your chats, a 2026 Trust Hub that swears it never happens, and a 2025 storage exposure that neither mentions. If you’re text-first, want the occasional picture and call, and will never upload a photo of anyone real, Secret Desires AI on the monthly Pro plan is a genuinely good deal. Read the safety section before you decide.

The numbers nobody else will show you

Ahrefs, September 15, 2026, for secretdesires.ai:

• Domain Rating 55, with 1,187 referring domains (526 followed) and 1.29 million backlinks. That is a very large link count for a very small site, which almost always means sitewide affiliate footers, and the “Become an Affiliate” link on every page confirms the programme.
• Organic search visits: about 3,900 in August 2026, down from about 7,400 in August 2025, a 46% fall. The peak was August 2025, and the line has roughly halved since. Ahrefs’ live estimate is a bit higher at around 8,800 a month, but the month-by-month trend is unambiguous.
• Only 113 ranking keywords, 12 of them in the top three. For a DR 55 domain with over a million backlinks, that’s a search footprint the size of a hobby blog.
• Top countries: US 7,254, India 690, UK 325. An overwhelmingly American audience.

The decline started before the November 2025 leak, so the press didn’t cause it; launch buzz faded. Search was never how this product found users. One 2026 tester puts total site traffic around 682,000 monthly visitors; if that’s even roughly right, organic search is under 1% of it. Secret Desires lives on Discord, affiliates and word of mouth.

The company: Playhouse Media LLC at a Dover registered-agent address, and Playhouse Media Trading Ltd, registration C112448, Birkirkara, Malta. EU residents contract with Malta; everyone else with Delaware. 404 Media named the CEO as Jack Simmons.

Who this is for

You’re the target if you want one subscription that does everything and you don’t want to spend more than eight dollars finding out. Pro at $7.99 includes unlimited messaging, images, video, voice notes and live calls, with 100 Hearts a month. Nothing else in my ranking bundles that much at that price.

You’re the target if you like building characters in detail. Appearance, personality, voice, kinks and a roleplay-versus-texting switch are all in the creator. One 2026 comparison called it “the deepest character creator we tested”. Partners also “reach out with messages, send you images that fit the moment” without being asked.

And you’re the target if you’re a Discord person or a Character.AI refugee who will pay to avoid an ID upload. The Desire engine was shaped on that server.

Who should skip this

Skip it if you’re buying for voice. Every independent test I read, and both detailed Reddit reviews, say the same thing: voice output is flat, rushed, “like it’s speed-reading a script with zero feeling”, calls sound like a bad phone line with sentences cut off, and in one July 2026 test the call feature errored out and dropped the tester to the sign-in screen. The company markets calls as a headline feature. They’re the weakest thing it does.

Skip it if you want a refund option. The Terms are blunt: “All sales are final and non-refundable except for EU residents who are granted a 14-day withdrawal period… No refunds will be issued for dissatisfaction, misunderstanding, or technical issues.” Not even a 24-hour grace clause. Disputes go to binding arbitration under JAMS rules in San Francisco with a class-action waiver.

Skip it if you generate a lot of video. Five-second clips cost 8 Hearts on the cheap engine or 24 on the good one. Pro’s 100 Hearts is four decent clips a month.

Skip it if you’re on desktop. The one hands-on Reddit review that goes into detail says the site is “terrible on computer”: missing buttons, odd text rendering, harder to use. It’s built for a phone browser.

And skip it if the November 2025 exposure is disqualifying for you. I lay out exactly what happened below, and I won’t pretend the Trust Hub erases it.

What Reddit actually says

I went through 38 brand-matching posts and about 380 comments that mention Secret Desires, from 2024 through September 2026. After throwing out r/CharacterAIrevolution and r/CAIRevolution recommendation threads stuffed with identical DarLink one-liners, r/AItexting and r/ChatbotRefugees listicles, and the comment-farm replies that landed on a March 2026 thread four months late, I was left with maybe a dozen comments from people who had clearly paid or were currently using it. Mentions are common. Deep reviews are not. That is the opposite of what I wrote last time, and I’ve corrected it: the companion subs talk about this app constantly. They just almost never talk about it for more than two sentences.

Among those genuine comments, the split is mixed-to-positive on the product and silent on the company. Paying users like the girlfriend-shaped chat, the lack of ads once you subscribe, and memory that beats Janitor and SpicyChat. They do not like Hearts (one July 2026 r/ChatbotRefugees user who had tried Candy, Secrets and Janitor, asked for uncensored recs, and when pressed on what wasn’t working said “Tokens. I don’t want that.”), and they do not write cancellation or refund stories. Nobody in this pile posted a months-long spend log.

The useful dated notes, in order. January 2025, r/CharacterAI_No_Filter: a user who wanted to “replicate anyone’s voice” bought a Secret Desires subscription after finding no free voice-cloning alternative. Voice cloning is still on Ultra. May 2025, r/Chatbots: “I know secretdesires used to have it but got removed,” about uploading a photo to make a custom character. That is six months before 404 Media; users were already hunting a face-swap replacement. Same month, a user-profile post titled “Secretdesires.ai: review after one week of testing” said “I had to pay $ 19.99 per month” and named the character, “Sasha Mitchell.” That matches the single-tier $19.99 checkout an EU tester hit in May 2026, so the “your price may not be my price” problem is at least a year old. July 2025, r/ChatbotRefugees: an OP bouncing between Replika and Secret Desires called the latter “a bit more unfiltered” with a voice feature that “sounds clear” and image gen that is “lil slow.” That’s one voice-positive data point against every independent test calling it robotic; I’m leaving both on the table. August 2025, r/AItexting: a late-night user arguing with a bot about whether penguins have knees. That’s the most ordinary genuine-use post in the pile.

March 2026 is the memory claim. The same writeup was posted to r/CharacterAIrevolution and r/CAIRevolution on the same day. The original poster had paid for Secret Desires and Kindroid and said they “remember everything even after a 3000 messages long conversations.” That’s the most specific recall figure anyone offered, it’s one person, and they grouped two apps together. Treat it as a ceiling, not a spec. Under that post, a cluster of short comments in early April called “secrets” underrated, ad-free, and “the best memory out there.” Some of that reads like real users; some of it arrived in a clump that looks coordinated. I can’t tell the accounts apart from the text.

By July 2026 a current user on r/CharacterAIRefugees wrote “I’m currently using secret desires ai because it’s more of an ai girlfriend app and I kinda like it” while asking whether Janitor was a different thing (it is: community cards, not a girlfriend product). In August and September 2026, an r/CharacterAIrevolution original poster who had been shopping Kindroid, Candy and Secret Desires came back to say Candy was “Not worth it tbh. I think kindroid and secretdesires are better than this. It’s expensive,” then “I’ve checked nomi and secretdesires as well. worth trying imo.” One competing-app account in the same thread told them to “Skip Candy and Secret Desires; they’re pretty much aggressive paywalls pushing mid-tier image generators with super shallow chat models.” That’s the honest range: girlfriend-app users who stayed, Character.AI refugees who bounce, and affiliates who want you somewhere else.

Two older posts still worth reading, because they are longer than anything in the 2026 rec threads. A March 2025 r/CharacterAIrunaways writeup from a Discord regular is the Desire-engine hype piece: recall “in incredible detail,” with the concession that “Voice notes and calling honestly be pretty hit or miss.” A September 2025 r/BestVirtualGirlfriend “honest review” is the one that called the site better on a phone than a computer, pictures “pretty real,” and the voice “like it’s speed-reading a script with zero feeling.” Chat great, voice meh, desktop worse than mobile: that triangle has not moved.

The promotional layer is thick and getting thicker. r/aitoolsandmoney in 2024 had “Secretdesires.ai is FREAKING amazing (better than candy.ai IMO)” with an affiliate tag. r/CharacterAIrevolution in 2026 is a rec-thread machine: DarLink comments that all open with “insane rp” plus memory, image dumps from throwaway accounts, and developers dropping their own URLs. r/AItexting and r/ChatbotRefugees host the softer version, the “which bot won you over” posts that name Secret Desires in the body and collect -oonga-style replies. Skip outbound links, skip any comment that could be copied onto a different brand by changing one word, and read what’s left. What’s left is the previous paragraphs, plus the leak.

What Reddit said after the leak

The 404 Media reporting is in the next section, and I’m not restating it. What I can add is how Reddit actually reacted, because it is not the reaction the Trust Hub implies.

On November 19, 2025, r/TwoXChromosomes posted the story under “Massive Leak Shows Erotic Chatbot Users Turned Women’s Yearbook Pictures Into AI Porn” (score 234, seven comments). Eight days later r/BetterOffline ran “A Massive Breach Reveals the Truth Behind ‘Secret Desires AI’” (59 comments). The comment worth keeping is a TL;DR from November 27: the service let you “upload images of people and create porn of it,” the files sat in blob storage “unencrypted, so anyone with a link can access,” “Some images were clearly school yearbook pictures,” ages “range from children to adults,” and the journalist who went through the material said it was “mostly pretty extreme content and mostly regular people and not celebrities.” A second summary got the vendor wrong, calling the buckets “Amazon S3”; the reporting was Azure. A Norwegian commenter asked whether any of the files tied to Oslo. Nobody from Playhouse Media replied. No paying user showed up to say they had been in the leak, or that it was overblown, or that they had cancelled.

What did show up, starting in February 2026, were affiliates. Inside the leak thread itself: “After hearing about breaches in Secret Desires AI, I felt safer switching to VirtuaLover.” Uncensy. DarLink (“way better.. actually uncensored”). The breach became a sales funnel. The companion subs, over the same winter, kept listing Secret Desires next to Kindroid and Candy as a Character.AI alternative and did not mention the yearbooks. November 25, 2025, six days after the story, an r/CAIRevolution post said “I’d rather pay to platforms like kindroid and secret desires ai for nsfw roleplays than giving my ID to cai.” That sentence is the whole problem: the leak lived on TwoX and BetterOffline, and the people still shopping for a girlfriend app never saw it.

The exposure, and the Trust Hub that followed

On November 19, 2025, 404 Media’s Samantha Cole reported that Secret Desires had left Microsoft Azure Blob Storage containers publicly accessible, with XML index files listing direct links to the media inside. Three containers: “removed images” with about 930,000 files, many of celebrities and “very young looking women”; “faceswap” with about 50,000 real photos uploaded to a paid face-swap feature; and “live photos” with about 220,000 AI-generated videos. Roughly 1.8 million files after de-duplication. Many filenames included women’s full names. The real photos came from social media, workplaces, graduations, Snapchat screenshots and at least one yearbook. Some filenames referenced minors. File dates suggest the containers were open for months.

About an hour after 404 Media emailed the company, the files went dark. Playhouse Media and CEO Jack Simmons did not answer questions. Mashable and others repeated the story; none reported a company statement, and I can find none today. The face-swap feature had been quietly removed in early 2025 but was still listed as a paid feature on November 3, 2025, and gone by November 11. Voice cloning, which lets you upload an audio sample of anyone, remains.

Then, on March 9, 2026, three new pages appeared: Trust Hub, Security and Safety, and Transparency. They’re good pages, naming the encryption, the host, the auth provider, a SOC 2 audit “initiated February 2026” and two penetration-testing firms, and promising a first quantitative transparency report in Q2 2026.

Three things about them. One: they never mention November 2025. A trust hub that omits the most important trust event in the company’s history is a marketing document. Two: the infrastructure described is OVH; the exposed storage was Azure. Either they migrated, or the media lives somewhere the Security page doesn’t cover. Three: it’s mid-September 2026 and the Q2 report hasn’t appeared; the page still says “publishes Q2 2026” in the future tense.

To be fair: starting a SOC 2 audit and hiring pen testers three months after an exposure is what a company that learned something does, and it beats MyLovely’s silence. It’s just not the same as saying “this happened, here’s what we changed”, and users deserved that sentence.

First-session walkthrough

The homepage is dark and photographic, tagline “Where connection and desire meet”, with a grid of community characters carrying long first-person bios. The writing is better than the category norm; several bios run to paragraphs and read like fiction-workshop character sheets. A few are deliberately abrasive (a findom demanding a “$50 initial tribute”). The range signals a roleplay-first culture rather than a girlfriend-app culture.

Below the fold is the FAQ where the marketing claims live: unlimited messaging, images, short videos, voice notes and real-time calls; “bank-level encryption” and messages “never stored in readable form”; billing as “SDAI”; and “no download needed.”

Sign-up is OAuth through Discord, Google or X via Firebase, so there’s no password to leak, and no identity verification, which one homepage testimonial cites as the reason for leaving Character.AI (“at least they won’t ask for my ID”). You still have to give them an email or a social account almost immediately: an August 2026 r/Chatbots poster complained that “Kindroid, secretdesires, and nomi ask for my email address right after 1 message.” The free account gets you chat on the standard engine; the moment you ask for a picture, a call or a premium engine, you meet the Hearts meter and the subscription screen.

Chat experience and memory

Chat is the strong suit. Paid tiers get unlimited messages on tiered engines: Advanced and Pro on Pro, Ultra on Ultra, Max and experimental on Max. Reddit’s enthusiast layer is unanimous that the newer engines, particularly “Desire”, are the best thing about the product, and the two modes (asterisked roleplay versus realistic texting) are a smart touch most apps skip. Proactive messaging is real and time-aware; your character texts you first.

Memory uses a summarising approach: recent turns verbatim, older material compressed into key memories, so there’s no hard context wall. Independent testing in July 2026 confirmed a character recalling a cat’s name and the user’s job the next day, across a visible date divider, and called it “the only confirmed next-day recall” in a twelve-app test. A paying Reddit user in March 2026 grouped Secret Desires with Kindroid and said they “remember everything even after a 3000 messages long conversations”; that’s one person, and it’s the most generous figure in the pile. Against that, the detailed Reddit review found conversations “started feeling scripted” over time, and another tester found long scenes drifting to generic replies after roughly 30 messages on the lower engines. So: good memory for the price, better on the higher engines, not in the Nomi and Kindroid league for months-long continuity.

Now the storage claim. The homepage says conversations are “never stored in readable form”. The Trust Hub says the company collects “Conversation history, so your AI companion remembers context”, and the Security page describes that storage as AES-256 disk encryption. Full-volume encryption at rest is good practice. It is not messages the company can’t read; it protects against a stolen drive, not against the company’s own systems or a misconfigured bucket. Somebody in marketing turned a LUKS volume into “scrambled codes”.

Image generation

Cheap and plentiful, with a consistency problem. Multiple engines are available; the Monet engine costs 0.3 Hearts per image, which on the 100-Heart pack works out to about three cents, the lowest per-image price any tester in my reading has measured in this category. Premium image engines run up to about 4 Hearts. Pro’s 100 monthly Hearts is therefore roughly 333 cheap images or 25 premium ones.

Quality: fast and decent on Monet, better on premium engines, inconsistent everywhere. “The same character looking different across renders” is the recurring line; one reviewer found pre-made portraits with “glitched or deformed eyes”. Reddit’s positive reviews call the pictures “pretty real”; nobody calls them Candy-grade. Proactive photo sends work and are a nice touch.

What’s gone: uploading a real person’s face. Face-swap was removed in early 2025. By May 2025, r/Chatbots already had people asking for a replacement: “I know secretdesires used to have it but got removed.” Per the 404 Media reporting, that removal is also why some users cancelled. Given what was in those storage containers, it’s the single best product decision this company has made.

Voice and video

Voice is the marketed differentiator and the measured weakness. Three features: voice notes both ways, real-time two-way calls, and on Ultra and above, voice cloning from an uploaded sample. Very few rivals attempt live calls at all, so credit for ambition. Voice cloning is also why at least one person paid: a January 2025 r/CharacterAI_No_Filter user bought a subscription after failing to find a free way to “replicate anyone’s voice.” That feature is still on the site.

Execution, per every source: delivery is “flat, rushed, or occasionally robotic”, sentences cut off, audio overlaps “like a choppy cell phone call”, and one July 2026 test call failed outright. Calls cost about 2 Hearts a minute, so Pro’s allowance is 50 minutes, and one reviewer reports caps of 120 minutes a day and 300 a month. My old review said voice didn’t exist; it does, and you probably won’t love it.

Video: 5-second clips. Seraph at 8 Hearts is fast and, per one tester, “terrible”, censoring NSFW content and producing unnatural motion. Inferno at 24 Hearts is better, takes about four minutes, and still glitches around lips and eyes. Four Inferno clips exhaust a Pro month.

Customization depth

This is where Secret Desires punches above its price. The creator covers appearance, personality, voice, kinks and texting style, and the roleplay-versus-texting toggle changes how the character writes, not just what.

Two caveats. Visual consistency doesn’t always honour written detail. And if a character you set to Public becomes popular enough, the privacy policy lets the company keep it live even after you delete your account. Build privately if that bothers you.

NSFW behavior and limits

Uncensored for adults, with the hard limits on the Transparency page: CSAM, unauthorised celebrity likenesses, non-consensual deepfakes of real people, bestiality, non-consent and incest. The cheap video engine reportedly censors content the image engines produced happily, so NSFW video is really an Inferno-only feature. The celebrity and deepfake bans are a policy the company arrived at the hard way. The free account is enough to judge the writing; try Secret Desires AI on monthly Pro before you consider anything longer.

Mobile experience

Browser only, and the company is proud of it: “zero apps cluttering your device.” The Terms mention a “SecretDesires.AI mobile application”, but I can’t find one in any store, and the homepage FAQ contradicts it. The detailed Reddit review is emphatic that the site works “much better on your phone than computer”, citing missing buttons and odd text rendering on desktop. The usual browser-only penalty applies in reverse: phone users get the intended experience, desktop users the second-class one.

Pricing analysis

The pricing page renders client-side and I couldn’t load it directly; the figures below come from four independent paid-account tests and checkout screenshots from May through August 2026, which agree with each other.

Hearts top-ups: 50 for $4.99, 100 for $8.99, 250 for $21.99, 500 for $39.99, 1,000 for $69.99, up to 10,000 for $519.99. Hearts reset monthly and don’t roll over.

Per-action costs reported by testers: Monet image 0.3 Hearts, premium images up to 4, 5-second video 8 (Seraph) or 24 (Inferno), voice call about 2 per minute, voice note about 1 per 80 words. Standard chat is free of Hearts on every paid tier.

Three profiles:

• Text-first with pictures: Pro monthly, $7.99. Unlimited chat plus 300-odd Monet images. Best deal in the ranking.
• Talker: Pro is 50 minutes of calls a month; Max gives 150. Test the voice quality on Pro first, because you may not want more of it.
• Video person: don’t. Four good clips a month on Pro, twelve on Max.

Caveats. A tester buying from an EU IP in May 2026 saw a single $19.99 Premium tier instead of the three-tier ladder, and a May 2025 Reddit user who tested for a week also “had to pay $ 19.99 per month.” The company’s guide reportedly says plans vary “by account, device and experiment.” There’s no refund outside the EU, so annual is a bet on a company that has changed its tier structure at least twice in a year.

Value vs alternatives

On raw features per dollar, Secret Desires beats everything I’ve reviewed. The question is what you’re trading for it. Candy AI for image, video and voice quality, and for a company without a leak. Nomi or Kindroid if memory is the whole point. Luvr AI if you want cheap and simple with a smaller feature list. MyLovely AI had an April 2026 breach of chat prompts tied to emails, arguably a worse category of leak than this media exposure.

Rule of thumb: Secret Desires if you want the most features for the least money and you’re a text-and-pictures user. Anything else if voice or video quality is why you’re paying.

Refund and cancellation reality

Cancellation: Profile and Settings, Billing, Cancel Subscription. A July 2026 tester counted six steps with two retention offers (a bonus and a “2.5x Hearts” deal) and loss framing before the cancel went through. Access continues to the end of the paid period. Account deletion is blocked while a subscription is active, so cancel, wait for the period to end, then delete. The Trust Hub’s “no ‘are you sure?’ dark patterns” line is about deletion and is, on that tester’s evidence, not true of cancellation.

Refunds, verbatim from the Terms updated March 26, 2026: “All sales are final and non-refundable except for EU residents who are granted a 14-day withdrawal period.” “Fees for subscriptions are non-refundable.” “No refunds will be issued for dissatisfaction, misunderstanding, or technical issues.” “Subscriptions following the trial are non-refundable.” The only good news is what’s absent: unlike most of the category, there’s no clause saying that using the product during the 14 days voids the EU right. My old review’s “partial refunds are sometimes granted” was fiction; I’ve removed it.

Disputes: binding individual arbitration under JAMS Streamlined Rules, hearings in San Francisco, class-action waiver, California law, one-year limitation on claims. You can opt out of arbitration per the Terms; do it in writing when you sign up if you care.

Safety, privacy and billing discretion

Start with what’s good, because there’s a lot. The Security page names AES-256 via LUKS, RSA-4096 backups, Cloudflare TLS, OVH hosting, Firebase OAuth, two pen-test firms, and a SOC 2 audit in progress with Delve since February 2026. Pseudonymous signup, no ID, self-service deletion. Only a handful of apps name their encryption at all.

Now the contradictions, which are the company’s own words against each other.

Training. Trust Hub and Security page, March 2026: “Your conversations are never used to train AI models… No copies. No training datasets. No exceptions.” Privacy Policy, last updated October 24, 2024 and still the live legal document: the company uses your information “to train our artificial intelligence/machine learning models.” Terms, March 2026: you grant a “transferable, sublicensable, perpetual, irrevocable license to use the Content for any purpose related to the Services.” I’m inclined to believe the zero-retention routing is real. But the privacy policy is the binding document, it’s seventeen months older than the Trust Hub, and nobody updated it. Until they do, the permission you actually granted is the broad one.

Storage. “Never stored in readable form” on the homepage versus “Conversation history” as a collected data category on the Trust Hub. Disk encryption isn’t unreadability.

Retention. “For the time necessary for the purposes”, plus the clause preserving popular public characters after you delete your account. Group Chat is referenced as a feature where your messages are visible to other participants.

Billing. Cards through unnamed processors; the descriptor is “SDAI” and a US tester’s $7.99 settled as $8.15 with no tax line, suggesting a non-US merchant of record. Discreet, and I’d still use a virtual card.

Practical advice: sign up through a throwaway OAuth identity, never upload a photo of anyone, never clone a voice that isn’t yours, and treat the “never readable” and “never trained on” claims as aspirations until the privacy policy catches up with the Trust Hub.

Common complaints and patterns

Weighted by how often independent sources repeat them: voice quality (flat, rushed, robotic, choppy, one failed call); image consistency across renders; Hearts running out fast for image- and video-heavy users, which is the “Tokens. I don’t want that” complaint in other words; bugs, freezes and a desktop version missing buttons; a six-step cancel flow with retention offers; no refunds for anything; expensive, mediocre video; and, from 2025 users, resentment that face-swap was removed, which tells you something about part of the user base. The leak did not become a companion-sub complaint; it became an affiliate pitch. Praise clusters on price, the character creator, the Desire and higher-tier engines, proactive messaging, next-day memory, the active Discord, and transparency about who runs the thing.

Final verdict

Secret Desires AI is the best value in my ranking and I’m rating it 7.6 anyway, because value is only one column. Unlimited uncensored chat, three-cent images, proactive messages, voice calls and video on a $7.99 plan, from named Delaware and Malta entities. If you’re a text-first user who wants pictures and the occasional call, monthly Pro is an easy recommendation.

The deductions are specific. Voice is the weakest feature by every account. Image consistency and video trail the leaders. No refunds outside the EU.
