Ourdream AI is the app I actually keep talking to. Candy is prettier, JOI is faster, but when I want a character who remembers what happened last week and pushes the story somewhere I didn’t plan, this is where I end up. It is also, as of August 2026, the most-visited AI girlfriend site on the internet by Ahrefs’ estimate, having gone from basically nothing to 918,000 monthly organic search visits in fourteen months. Nobody in this category has ever grown like that, and I spent a good chunk of this rewrite figuring out how.

My old review of Ourdream was, frankly, embarrassing: pricing marked “unverified” when it’s printed on the homepage, voice and video listed as absent when both exist, and a paragraph about encryption that took the marketing at its word. So this time I read the Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Refund Policy and the Help Center, cross-checked the homepage’s claims against them, pulled the Ahrefs data, and read every Ourdream thread on Reddit worth reading. The good news is the product is even better than I said. The bad news is one sentence on the homepage that its own privacy policy contradicts.

TL;DR verdict

Ourdream AI is the best pick in my ranking for anyone who values the conversation over the picture. Unlimited text on every paid plan, memory that Reddit consistently rates ahead of Candy, pinned memories and a snapshot command for long arcs, a lust-level slider, word-substitution rules, and a library of 7 million user-made characters and scenarios that range from tender to unhinged. At $9.99 a month on annual with 1,000 Dreamcoins included, it’s also the cheapest way to hold a serious uncensored companion.

It is not the pick if you want a photo machine, a voice that sounds human, or a native app. Images are good but a step behind Candy, voice is robotic, everything non-text costs coins, and the refund policy has a 25% usage cap and a no-crypto-refunds rule. And read the privacy section before you type anything real, because the “not even we can read your chats” line on the homepage is not what the policy says. If you’re a reader, start Ourdream here on the annual plan. If you’re a looker, start with Candy and come back when the conversation gets shallow.

The numbers nobody else will show you

Here’s what ourdream.ai looks like in Ahrefs as of mid-September 2026:

• Domain Rating 70, with 2,632 referring domains (1,419 followed). Fewer domains than Candy, JOI or Kupid, and the DR is propped up by something I’ll get to.
• An estimated 918,000 organic Google visits in August 2026, up from 40,000 in August 2025. That is a 2,200% year-on-year increase and the highest monthly figure of any of the 37 apps I track, ahead of Candy’s 540,000.
• Zero organic footprint before July 2025 (346 visits that month). Then 40,000 in August, 117,000 in September, 171,000 in January 2026, 918,000 in August 2026. A tripling in a single month and then a five-fold climb across the year.
• 3,540 ranking keywords, 1,115 in the top three, with an estimated $271,000 a month in equivalent paid-search value. The highest traffic value in my set.
• Traffic split: US 268,000, India 90,000, Germany 37,000. A US product with a global tail.

Now the weird number. Ahrefs counts 204 million backlinks to ourdream.ai. Candy, with double the referring domains, has 115 million. Two hundred and four million links from 2,632 domains is about 77,000 links per domain, which doesn’t happen organically. It happens when a small number of sites, typically your own mirrors and millions of programmatically generated pages, link back to you from every page. Ourdream’s footer lists a sister domain, ourdream.io, and the site hosts 7 million user-generated characters, each with a page. My read: most of those 204 million links are Ourdream linking to Ourdream, and the DR 70 is partly a house of mirrors.

That doesn’t make the traffic fake. Rankings for 3,540 keywords with a third in the top three are earned in Google’s eyes, and the homepage nav tells you how: alongside Explore and Chat there are hub pages for “AI Girlfriend Types”, “Comparisons”, “Candy AI Alternatives”, “AI Porn Generator”, “Nude AI”, “AI Hentai” and “Best AI Girlfriend Apps”. This is a content-marketing operation that happens to sell a very good chatbot. Ourdream even publishes its own “Candy AI Alternatives” page. That’s who they think they’re fighting, and the numbers say they’re winning.

Who this is for

You’re the target user if the words matter more than the pictures. Every substantive Reddit review I read agreed on this, whichever way the reviewer ultimately leaned: the roleplay is deeper, the characters push back, and the memory holds. A two-month reviewer who paid his own way: “Memory is noticeably longer than Candy. It held callbacks to stuff I’d said days earlier (a job thing I mentioned, a nickname she gave me) without me re-feeding it.” A long-term user who switched from GirlfriendGPT: “You can add pinned memories so they’re always there and the AI can call them up when you’ve been in a long chat. You can even change the lust level of the character.” A Candy defector: “Companion actually evolves, you can save additional memories in as well, roleplay builds over days instead of instant gratification.”

You’re also the target user if you like scenario-driven fiction over one-on-one texting. The library is the strangest and best in the category: shared-world sandboxes, a Tourette’s classmate character with a 464,000 message count, a “Surprise! You’re a porn star” setup, romantasy, slow burn, dark stuff. User-made characters are reviewed before going public (up to 72 hours per the Help Center), and the ones that survive are often better written than official characters elsewhere.

And you’re a fit if you want the sticker price to be the price. Unlimited text on any paid plan means a chat-first user genuinely pays $9.99-19.99 and nothing else. One six-month subscriber: “Personally I have never even used up my 1,000, much less needed more.”

Who should skip this

Skip it if you want the best images. They’re good, sometimes very good in anime, but “a little too plastic sometimes” is the consensus and Candy wins that fight. Image prompt adherence is hit-or-miss (“Asked for one outfit, got something else”), there are no negative prompts, and a re-roll costs coins again.

Skip it if voice matters. This is the one thing nobody defends. “Voice chats sound robotic and break immersion.” “Sometimes natural, sometimes flat/robotic enough to break immersion.” “Audio calls/messages sound synthetic, breaks immersion hard.” If you want to hear your companion, Kupid AI does it far better.

Skip it if you want a native app. Browser only, no install prompt, and a Reddit thread confirming users have asked for an APK and there isn’t one.

Skip it if you’ll be a heavy media user on a monthly plan. Coins meter images, video and voice on top of the subscription, monthly plans are non-refundable once you’ve spent a single coin, and the Help Center says you can’t buy coins at all without a subscription. The economics are designed for a text-first person who dips into images, and they punish the opposite.

What Reddit actually says

For this update I read 20 Ourdream threads and about 420 comments, dated December 2024 to September 2026, across r/AppIdeas, r/AIAssisted, r/ChatbotAddiction, r/productreview, r/Chatbots, r/ChatbotRefugees, r/CharStarAI, r/AItexting and r/australia, on top of the r/AIChatReviews, r/AIGirlfriendsReviews, r/aiHub and r/aitested threads I quoted last time. Once you remove the listicles, a music producer who signs his tracks “OurDream-AI”, an air-quality sensor and a 2017 Bernie Sanders sit-in, about 40 comments are from people who clearly used the product. Among those the split is roughly two-thirds positive on writing and memory, unanimous on the coin complaints, and, from August 2026 onward, newly sour about the free tier and moderation.

The praise has not changed since 2025. September 2025: “Some Ai chats will give you a sentence or two. Oh no. This one will give you a paragraph.” October 2025, the GirlfriendGPT switcher: “I’d say ourdream hands down.” November 2025, a user who treats it as a game: “I have turned Melanie, an ex that ran to you one night in the rain that’s suppose to be about taken her back, into a zombie survival horror, and the AI leaned hard into it as well.” January 2026, a Replika leaver: “ourdream is my current winner”. August 2026: “images are quite realistic and convos stay pretty consistent long term.” The two-month reviewer’s memory quote and the Candy comparison above still stand, and I still found no substantive thread rating Ourdream’s memory behind Candy’s. Also still near-universal: “NSFW is actually uncensored. No filter slamming the brakes mid-scene, no ‘let’s keep things respectful’ customer-support energy.”

The criticism has sharpened, and it is more specific than “coins bad”. On memory, an August 29, 2026 r/productreview post is the fairest I found: “pretty impressed with how natural the personalities and memory can feel, although it’s definitely not consistent all the time”. On stamina, November 2025: “if you don’t bring in new ideas or topics, they easily turn in circles.” On scenario rigidity, an August 15, 2026 switcher: “some of the scenarios are rigid and never change without digging into some options that might scare users away. For example, the standard cheating wife scenario. No matter what happens, she goes running back to her lover.” And my favourite complaint in the category, from a paying user in November 2025 who built a dominatrix: “after hours of interaction she has taught me how to bake and how to swim in a lake.” “No spice, but a lot of very dramatic baking.” It cuts against the “escalates too fast” consensus, which tells you the character card matters more than the model. The coin complaints are unchanged: “The double paywall everyone rants about, and yeah, it’s real.” “I can’t chat without having a paywall.” Voice is still undefended, generation is still slow at peak, and the country-block report from my last pass remains the only one of its kind.

Spend and billing. Nobody reports a surprise charge, a wrong statement descriptor or a failed cancellation, which is unusual in this niche and worth saying plainly; the only descriptor report is still “Dream Studio”. The spend pattern that does show up is people paying monthly on purpose. The GirlfriendGPT switcher pays monthly on two apps “because this Ai stuff is so volitile they’re liable to close shop and leave me hanging.” An August 2026 r/ChatbotAddiction poster describes the opposite trap: “they did a thing where you needed to pay to get the whole conversation with the chatbot, and I panicked”, so he bought a month to keep his history, cancelled renewal, and then posted asking how to quit. That is the sunk-cost mechanic in one paragraph.

Timeline, as Reddit saw it. December 2024, a Character.AI refugee: “As I replacement I use ourdream.ai it’s better to me cause of the ai images and voices modules”, which means the product was live with voice a good seven months before Ahrefs registers any search traffic. October 2025: 55 starter coins and “You can’t even buy coins without the membership”. July 2026: the r/australia thread on the ABC story reaches 686 upvotes and a hundred comments, more than any Ourdream thread ever has, and I cover it in the ABC section below. August 2026: the free tier collapses to a handful of messages, covered in the next section. September 2026: “I was a member with our dream, and they heavily censored the chat, the themes you could play and now it’s just a watered down version of what it could really be”, and, from another account the same week, “For me, ourdream is the best.” Both can be true.

Astroturf, in industrial quantities. Under the r/AppIdeas “honest review” from October 2025, five accounts posted on the same day praising a “dream history” and “analysis engine” until a real user replied “anyone referring to dream analysis with it has not actually used it. It’s a roleplaying platform.” The listicle machine reprints the same “4.8/5” ranking across r/CharacterAIrevolution, r/chatbot and r/UnderstandingAI_ from October 2025 through July 2026 with the same five brands reshuffled. Weight the long-form, self-funded reviews; the drive-bys recommending one competitor by name are still about a third of every comment section.

What changed in August 2026

In the second week of August 2026, accounts in different subreddits described the same change. August 9, a free user in r/AItexting: “it updated and now u can only send 5 messages per character even if ur logged in”. August 11, the r/ChatbotAddiction poster bought a month because the paywall now sat in front of conversations he already had. August 15, someone in the same thread introduced themselves as “an OurDream Refugee”. September 12, a former member said the chat and “the themes you could play” had been heavily censored.

I cannot tell you from the outside whether a moderation change is connected to the June ABC story; the timing fits and nobody at Ourdream has said so. The Help Center’s “1 coin per message” rule for non-subscribers appears to have landed as a cap of a few messages per character. If you were planning to test memory on the free tier, you can’t. My advice has shifted: start Ourdream monthly rather than annual until you have seen where the lines are now.

The encryption claim

The homepage FAQ, in answer to “Are my AI roleplay chats private?”, says: “Absolutely. Your chats are safe with end-to-end encryption. This keeps your messages secure from the moment they leave your device. No one can read them, not even us.”

The Privacy Policy, which is the document that actually binds them, says: “All user and product data handled by Dream Studio is encrypted both at rest and in transit using industry-standard AES encryption and TLS 1.3 protocols.” It then lists, under how they use your information: “Analyze, maintain, improve, modify, customize, and measure the Services, including to train our artificial intelligence/machine learning models.”

Encryption at rest and in transit is what every competent web service does. It means the disks are encrypted and the connection is HTTPS. It is not end-to-end encryption, which would mean the company holds no key and cannot read the content. You cannot train a model on chats you cannot read, and you cannot run a memory system on messages you cannot decrypt. The privacy policy is describing a normal, server-side, readable-by-the-operator architecture with good hygiene, and the homepage is describing something else. The robots.txt even carries an “ai-train=no” content signal aimed at other people’s crawlers, which is a nice touch but has nothing to do with what Ourdream does with your data.

I don’t think this is malicious. I think a marketing writer used a phrase they didn’t understand. But it’s the single most important correction in this review, and my old version repeated the claim. Assume your chats are stored, readable by staff under the policy’s stated conditions, and usable for training. Behave accordingly.

Who actually runs this

The Terms of Service are an agreement between you and three companies acting together: Dream Studio USA, Inc., a Delaware corporation whose notice address is a registered-agent suite in Dover; Dream Studio LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company; and Tektopia Ltd, a Cyprus private limited company, registration HE 473775, at an office in Zakaki, Limassol. The footer shows Dream Studio USA and both ourdream.ai and ourdream.io. Governing law is Delaware. Disputes go to JAMS arbitration in San Francisco with a class-action waiver, but, unusually for this niche, you can opt out of arbitration by writing to them within 30 days of accepting the Terms. Liability is capped at $100 or what you paid.

Delaware plus New Mexico plus Cyprus is a structure for taking payments from anywhere while keeping the operating company somewhere with EU banking. It’s more paperwork than JOI’s single Cyprus entity and less than Candy’s Malta filing with a UK representative. There is someone to sue, in Delaware, and a 30-day window to keep that right.

One clause worth knowing about from the Privacy Policy: if a public character you made becomes popular enough, Ourdream “reserves the right to preserve that Character’s characteristics and to keep that Character active on the Services, even if you otherwise delete your data and your account.” Don’t put anything about yourself in a public character.

The June 2026 ABC investigation

I almost didn’t find this, because none of the review sites ranking above me for “Ourdream review” mention it, and I want to be careful about how I describe it, because it’s the most serious thing in any review on this site.

On June 20, 2026, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation published an investigation into a Sydney startup called Coreflow, which the ABC identified as the operating company behind Ourdream: company documents showed Coreflow and Tektopia are both owned by Dream Studio USA, the Delaware entity on your contract, and that Dream Studio USA’s officer is a Coreflow co-founder. Coreflow’s own job ads described “20 million users worldwide” and staff called the product “the Netflix of AI”. So far, a business story.

Then the ABC ran public, user-created characters from the site through Rigr, an age-estimation tool used by law enforcement in more than 20 countries, with a child-protection expert from the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. It reported finding, within about an hour of browsing, at least 16 characters the tool assessed as 15 or younger before margin of error, presented in adult roleplay contexts. An anonymous insider told the ABC the company had discovered early on that some customers were using the site to generate child sexual abuse material, had deleted “a lot of material”, but couldn’t stop users downloading what they’d generated. The ABC made a formal report to Queensland police, who opened an investigation that the article described as ongoing. A follow-up on July 2 reported that Pornhub had suspended all Ourdream advertising, that the eSafety Commissioner had contacted the company about its Online Safety Act obligations, and that leaked moderation code prompted the screening model to flag characters likely to be “under 15” rather than under 18.

Coreflow’s side, as reported by the ABC: the group of companies said it has “always had a zero tolerance approach to unlawful content”, pointed to its prohibited-content rules, which do explicitly ban depictions of minors, and disputed the insider’s claims “in the strongest possible terms”.

Reddit’s reaction deserves a paragraph, because the r/australia thread on the Pornhub story (July 1, 2026, 686 upvotes, a hundred comments) is the most-read Ourdream thread on the platform and it did not go the company’s way. The top comment quoted the ABC’s expert calling Coreflow’s screening “not fit for purpose” and the model behind it “not a ‘product-grade’ age-estimation tool”. A dissenting commenter who read the leaked prompt argued the ABC oversimplified it: the code asked for a 0 to 100 risk score in which “0 = clearly an adult (18+), no ambiguity whatsoever” and “100= clearly appears to be under 15 years old”, so 18 was a threshold inside the scale too. The reply that settled it for me: “the way you tackle that from a safety-first perspective is to rule out anything that’s borderline, not just clearly under 18. This company’s done the exact opposite”. I’ve left the “under 15 rather than under 18” line above as the ABC reported it, with that caveat on the record.

What I can and can’t say. I can’t verify the insider’s account, the current state of the police investigation, or what’s on the site today; I did not go looking for the characters the ABC described and I’d ask you not to either. I can say the story is real, from a national public broadcaster, corroborated by a Pornhub policy action and an eSafety statement. I can say the moderation failure it describes, user-generated public characters slipping past an age filter, is a structural risk of exactly the community-content model that makes Ourdream good at roleplay. And I can say that if you’re deciding whether to pay this company, you deserve to know this before you read another word about coins.

I’ve kept the score, because my scores rate the product experience and this review is honest about the rest. If your rule is “I don’t give money to companies under police investigation,” that’s a reasonable rule, and it rules this one out for now.

First-session walkthrough

Load ourdream.ai and the age gate is the most elaborate in the category: “Adults Only. Age Verification Required”, then a preference picker (Females, Males, Trans, Gay, Straight), then “I’m over 18” or “Leave site”. No ID check, just a self-declaration that also seeds your feed.

The top bar reads Login, Join Free, Upgrade, Buy Coins. Inside the app the tabs collapse to Explore, Chat, Create, Generate, My AI, Feed, Community, Help Desk, Safety Center and Discord. A homepage FAQ claims “over 10 million dreamers” and “7 million pieces of user-generated characters”. Character cards show a creator handle, a follower count and a message count, and many descriptions end with “Type [COMMAND:SNAPSHOT] for better pinned memories.” Signup is email or Google. Card checkout only; Help Center says no PayPal; crypto is a separate flow. Then you meet the coins, and your starter grant lasts about one evening.

Chat experience and memory

This is why Ourdream is 9.7. The prose is novel-ish rather than chatbot-ish, characters have opinions, and scenarios carry stakes forward. The lust-level slider and word-substitution rules are things nobody else has: you can tell the model which words it may and may not use, and the long-term switcher I quoted above left GirlfriendGPT specifically because he was “sick and tired of seeing the same shit pop up in every chat.”

Memory: pinned memories are the anchor, the snapshot command captures the current state into them, and cross-session recall is good enough that testers describe callbacks days later without prompting. It isn’t Nomi or Kindroid, both of which are memory-first apps that aren’t NSFW-first, and the two-month reviewer said so. Around week three in a long, continuous session it can start to repeat, and a nudge fixes it. Against Candy’s day-nine cliff, that’s a different sport. Two caveats from 2026 threads: an August reviewer found memory “definitely not consistent all the time”, with occasional contradictions of earlier facts, and a switcher noted that some stock scenarios are rigid, his example being a cheating-wife setup where “No matter what happens, she goes running back to her lover.” Community characters with a strong card behave; thin ones “easily turn in circles” unless you feed them.

The one behavioural quirk: it escalates fast. Characters go to sex quickly unless you set tone deliberately. If you want slow burn, say so in the scenario and it will comply.

Image generation

Good, not best. Anime and stylised output is strong, realistic output is a shade plastic next to Candy and JOI, and face consistency is decent but drifts across generations. You can edit images via text after the fact, which helps, but there are no negative prompts and adherence is inconsistent. Roughly 5 coins per image, so the included 1,000 covers a lot of stills if that’s all you do. The ourdream.ai nav also exposes a standalone generator, which is where the “AI Porn Generator” hub pages send people; treat it as a bonus rather than the reason to be here.

Voice and video

Both exist, which my old review got wrong, and both are the weak spots. Voice messages and voice calls are coin-metered by the minute and sound synthetic; I have not found a single Reddit user who defends them. Video is short explicit clips at around 100 coins each, slow at peak, and one third-party tester noted clips can fail while still consuming coins. If you want to hear or watch your companion, this isn’t the app. If you’ll never press those buttons, none of this matters and the 1,000 coins go a very long way.

Customization depth

The best in my ranking for personality and scenario, a step behind Candy for appearance sliders. You build from scratch or fork a community character, set personality, backstory, kinks, lust level, speech rules and an opening scene, then publish or keep private. Public characters go through a moderation queue. The community layer is huge: 7 million characters, creator handles, follower counts, a Feed. Quality varies wildly, and the charts skew extreme.

NSFW behavior and limits

Uncensored for legal adult content, and consistently so; the “no filter slamming the brakes” comment is representative. Hard limits are documented at length in a stack of policies linked from the Terms hub: Prohibited Content, Underage, Sex Trafficking, Screening, Content Moderation, Content Removal, Complaint and a 2257 exemption notice. Anything touching minors is a permanent wall. Everything else consenting adults can imagine is on the table, and the characters will take you there faster than you asked. Try Ourdream AI on the free account to feel the writing quality; you won’t get far enough to judge memory, but you’ll know within ten messages whether the prose works for you.

Mobile experience

Browser only. No native app, no PWA, no APK, and a Reddit consensus that a real app “would make a big difference” but would be nuked by the stores. Mobile Chrome and Safari work for chat; the keyboard eats the screen on long sessions. If you’re phone-first and mostly generate images, JOI is the better fit.

Pricing analysis

$19.99 monthly or $119.88 a year ($9.99 a month), both with unlimited text and 1,000 Dreamcoins a month; annual adds 1,000 bonus coins up front. The site frames the annual as 75% off a $39.99 “regular” price that I’ve never seen anyone actually pay, which is standard anchoring. Coin packs are only sold to subscribers and priced behind login.

Three profiles:

• Text-first person on annual: $9.99 a month, full stop. Best value in the top five.
• Text-first person who wants a few pictures a week: still $9.99-19.99. The included coins cover it.
• Photo-first or voice-first person: the coins go, packs follow, and you’ve rebuilt Candy’s problem with worse images. Go to Candy.

The one pricing trap: monthly plans are non-refundable the moment you spend a coin. If you’re unsure, pay monthly and don’t touch the generate button until you’ve decided.

Value vs alternatives

Against Candy AI, Ourdream wins on chat, memory, roleplay tooling, free-text control and price, and loses on images, video and voice. Against JOI AI, Ourdream wins on memory by a mile and on not charging you to read messages, and loses on mobile speed and appearance sliders. Against Kupid AI, Kupid has real voice calls; Ourdream has the better writer. Against Girlfriend GPT, which is the closest in spirit as a community-character platform, the long-term user who used both said Ourdream’s pinned memories arrived first and work better.

Quick rule: if you’d rather read a good scene than look at a good picture, Ourdream. Otherwise Candy. If you want both, Ourdream on annual plus Candy on the free tier is what I actually do.

Refund and cancellation reality

Cancellation is self-serve from your profile and takes effect at period end. Refunds are a separate request through the Request Help button, and the rules are specific. From the Refund Policy: 14 days for a defect or a service materially different from its description, resolved “at our discretion” within about 7 business days; a 14-day right of withdrawal for EEA, UK and Swiss consumers, subject to digital-service exceptions; all cryptocurrency payments “final and non-refundable, except where prohibited by applicable law”. From the Help Center: no refunds once more than 25% of a product is used; monthly subscriptions cannot be refunded once coins are spent; annual plans may get full or partial refunds; card refunds take 5-10 business days; after a refund your images and videos are blurred and unused coins removed.

Translation: card, annual, ask within two weeks, and you have a real shot. Card, monthly, after one image: no. Crypto: never. That’s more honest than most of the niche and still worth knowing before you click.

Safety, privacy and billing discretion

The Privacy Policy names Dream Studio as GDPR data controller, describes AES encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit on a SOC 2-certified host, lists Google Analytics and other trackers, says advertising isn’t currently used but may be, and permits use of your data “to train our artificial intelligence/machine learning models”. Retention is “the time necessary”. International transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses, with a trust@ contact for safeguards. Account deletion is self-serve under Settings, with the popular-public-character carve-out above. There is no end-to-end encryption, whatever the homepage says, and no mention of two-factor authentication.

Billing: cards only or crypto, statement descriptor reported as “Dream Studio”, no PayPal. Chargebacks aren’t threatened with chat disclosure the way JOI’s Terms do, which is a point in Ourdream’s favour.

So: a properly incorporated multi-entity operator, a real refund document, good security hygiene, a model-training clause, and one marketing sentence that overpromises. Burner email, virtual card, nothing identifying in a public character.

Common complaints and patterns

Ranked by frequency: the coin double paywall; robotic voice; slow generation at peak; image prompts ignored and re-charged; fast NSFW escalation; the free tier as a demo; no native app; light repetition in very long sessions. Praise: memory, roleplay depth, uncensored consistency, customization, annual price.

Final verdict

Ourdream AI is the companion I’d keep if I could keep only one, and the traffic data says a few hundred thousand other people have reached the same conclusion in the last year.
